Are you kidding me?

The defending Super Bowl champions New Orleans Saints meet the NFC West Division champions Seattle Seahawks in Seattle in the wild card round on January 8, 2011. The Saints are the wild card team, despite having a better record, 11-5, than the Seahawks who finished 7-9, but play in a weaker division than the Saints. Few are giving the Seahawks much of a chance of winning, as they are the first divisional champ in NFL history with a losing record, and were blown out in the majority of their losses this season. However, on any given game day, anything can happen.

Would you believe, the Saints needed to score 42 points in order to win this one? Alas, they didn't; they could only muster 36, losing 41-36 to a Seahawks team that came ready to play. I just don't know how the highly rated Saints defense could give up so many touchdowns, and 41 points in total. It is true that the offense could have finished some drives better and scored touchdowns instead of field goals, but you would think that 36 points would be enough to beat one of the poorer teams in the league. Sadly for the Saints, on this day, it wasn't.

Last year's Saints run to the Super Bowl title was a great experience. It would have been really cool to have won back to back titles, especially in a season with so many setbacks due to injuries. However, it is just not to be. Maybe next season. Winning two Super Bowls in three years would still quite an accomplishment. We just have to hope we don't have to meet Seattle again in the first round of the playoffs. I still can't believe we gave up 41 points just like that. Are you kidding me?
